U.S. motorists can’t recall 68% of key information following a crash and 44% failed to identify the car at fault for a traffic incident, according to recent study. Another study found 70% of drivers want a build-in dashboard camera on their next new vehicle. Whatever their reasons may, footage from dash cams has been used countless times in motor vehicle crash investigations.

Most classroom doors have locks that can help keep out intruders. School buses aren’t afforded the same luxury due to the nature of how they operate, constantly letting students on and off. That’s when schools must rely on employee training and technology to enhance student safety.

A nearly $1 million grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is expected to help a Kansas City-based nonprofit expand and strengthen the infrastructure of its national education research and development coalition, its founder said.

As students across the country return to school, it’s not just the classrooms that need to be prepared. The school buses that transport millions of students every day are also crucial to ensuring a safe school year.

Beginning on the first day of school on Sept. 5, Mendham Township Elementary and Middle School students will have safer bus rides thanks to the district’s investment in innovative technology. 

Starting Thursday, parents and students in Mendham Township could use a free mobile app to track their buses in real-time. The district has also installed video cameras and audio equipment on its 37 buses, which serve some neighboring towns as well.

Schools have significantly improved security within their buildings. Now they’re extending the safeguarding of students on their buses.
